Nov. 19 release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1”
During summer of 2009 whilst filming Deathly Hallows, Daniel Radcliffe relaxed in a chair while on a break, and reflected on how lovely the life of a fugitive was.
“Everybody is after us,” Radcliffe said, about his character Harry and Harry's friends Ron(Rupert Grint)
and Hermione (Emma Watson).
“We’re to the point in the story where it’s a lot of action and we’re on the run. And that’s brilliant.”
It would seem the change of pace that the books take at this point with Deathly Hallows appealed to him. However, this film is a major departure from the previous films in that they will not be shot in Hogwarts. Hogwarts -- the lovely castle that has become synonymous with Harry Potter.
This film is a road trip type of movie with the three main characters Harry, Hermione and Ron together searching for the last Horcrux. The only thing is, in this road trip they are all running from Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). They are fugitives, and desperately hoping to find the answers they need to thwart the evil Voldemort before he destroys Harry and everything they hold dear.
This film is set against a naturalistic backdrop, in areas where you would not think of the presence of magic. Producer David Heyman reflects a bit on that here:
“We have them a bit in Whitehall, in central London, we have them on Shaftesbury Avenue in the cafes,” Heyman continued. “It feels real, gritty at times and beautiful at other times. But it is not at Hogwarts, and that gives us a fresh impetus.”
Though it was unusual to film the stories outside of Hogwarts, this is more of what Radcliffe had to say:
“I think getting out was a marvellous thing for the story and for the look of the film. This movie just looks different from the other ones. We’ve spent so much time at Hogwarts that it makes it fresh to go somewhere new on screen.”
Deathly Hallows will be in two parts, as many already know. The seventh film will have terrifying showdowns with Deatheaters and a dragon being used as an untamed getaway vehicle. You can count on overwhelming suspense in this film along with emotional tension off the charts for many sequences.
Again Heyman said: “One thing I love about the films of [director] David Yates is that you really feel the human element. There’s a real truthfulness, and going out on the road with this seventh film, it makes it feel just that much more real.”
Of course, the grand castle Hogwarts will return in Deathly Hallows Part 2. As anyone would know that read the books, much of the school was destroyed through the final battle in book 7. Therefore, it only makes sense that they would bring Hogwarts back into the film in Part 2. Not to mention, the recent poster about the movie released through Warner Bro is haunting to the true fan with its caption blazing across the top: It All Ends Here! I don’t know about anyone else, but each time I look at that poster, I feel like crying.
Tom Felton had this to say about the films collectively:
“Without question, these two are going to blow all of the rest of them away. The last two will not disappoint, that’s something you can rest assured about.”
We should face it. Harry Potter has been a part of our lives for years now, and many kids have grown up on it. It will be like saying goodbye to an old friend. The good part is, we can blow the dust off the complete DVD set we will inevitably buy in the future, and watch Harry’s adventures repeatedly. He will live forever in our hearts and minds.
